Boiler

Boiler and Fittings

The Boiler consists of a 50 mm diameter x 1.5 mm thick copper tube x 190 mm long.  End caps of copper sheet were formed over a hardwood former which were turned in the lathe, allowing for the thickness of the copper sheet.  These end caps were silver soldered into the ends of the boiler tube after being drilled with a stepped cone drill to accept the burner tube, the solder used was the last  of my Easiflo solder which has removed from sale due to the cadmium content.

Boiler Shell With Fittings

The bushes for the fittings were turned up from phosphor bronze and soldered as above, as was the 15 mm diameter boiler tube.

Fittings were turned up from brass except the safety valve which was made from phosphor bronze.  I used bass for a couple of the fittings as they are replaceable if dezincification takes place but the safety valve is critical.  The fittings were made to suit 3 mm diameter copper tube where applicable.  I intend to use O rings for sealing rather than nipples but I may have to rethink that if I get problems.
